The Boparan Charitable Trust’s first ever fundraiser kicked off on Saturday 22nd August with a charity five-aside football tournament in Willenhall.
More than 100 people participated in this sporting event which raised over £7,500 and marked the launch of the Boparan Charitable Trust.
The Trust, which was founded by Antonio Boparan, aims to enrich the lives of children who are disadvantaged through poverty, disability and terminal illness.
Speaking after the event Mr. Boparan said: “I wanted to set up a charity that offers children a special experience, whether it’s fulfilling a lifelong dream or simply enabling them to acquire some specialist equipment.”
“For me, it’s about helping little stars shine bright. Today’s event enabled us to kick start the fundraising and I feel we’ve made a promising start.”
Leo Lions, a visiting team from Yorkshire, eventually won the tournament and were crowned champions of the Black Country. Their captain said: “It was a fantastic day and there was some good rivalry and banter. It goes without saying that it took a Yorkshire team to win the tournament.”
